Stay consistent with a friend
A streak is easier to keep when someone else can see it. Luca lets a friend see that you showed up, without seeing what you ate.

Why a friend helps
Logging food is a small daily chore, and small daily chores are easier with company. Knowing that a friend will notice your streak is a gentle reason to take the photo.
What your friend sees, and what they do not
| Your friend sees | Your friend never sees |
|---|---|
| The display name you chose | Your calories |
| Your avatar | Your protein, carbs or fat |
| Your streak | What you ate |
| Whether you logged today | Your photos |
| Whether you reached your goal today | Your targets |
| Your badges |
This is not a setting you have to find. It is how the feature is built: the details of your meals stay on your phone and are not sent anywhere for friends to see. The full account is on the privacy-first page.
Setting it up
- Find your 4-character code in Luca.
- Send it to your friend however you like, or type in theirs.
- The other person accepts.
- Start a challenge if you want one.
Your display name is whatever you type. It does not need to be your real name. Pick one of twelve avatars: six of Luca the poodle and six of Mino, his cat friend, who looks after the friends side of the app.
A streak also has some give in it: one streak freeze a week covers a day you miss, so a single busy day does not send you back to zero.
Challenges that count showing up
Challenges in Luca are about consistency, and there are only three kinds: longest streak, most days logged, and most goal days (days on which you reached your own goal). They are not contests over who ate less. Two people with very different targets can do the same challenge, because each is judged against their own goal.
If it stops being fun
Remove a friend at any time. Comparison helps some people and bothers others; if watching a streak makes food feel like a test, turn it off. Building a logging habit has other ways to stay consistent.

Photo, voice and text results are estimates and they are approximate. Adjust them when you know better. Luca is not a medical device and does not give dietary advice.
Questions
How do I add a friend in Luca?
Each person has a 4-character code. Share yours or enter your friend's, and the other person accepts. No phone number, contact list or email is used.
Can my friend see what I eat or how many calories I had?
No. A friend sees your display name, your avatar, your streak, whether you logged today, whether you reached your goal today, and your badges. Calories, macros, meals and photos are never shown to friends.
What is a friend challenge?
A contest between you and friends you choose. There are three kinds: longest streak, most days logged, and most days on which you reached your own goal. It never compares what or how much anyone ate.
Do I have to use friends?
No. Friends and challenges are optional. Luca works fully on your own.
